Basketball Recap: Mount Sinai Extends Winning Streak to 11

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mount Sinai walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Byram Hills Bobcats 67-64. The win was all the more spectacular given the Mustangs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Bobcats are ranked fourth).

Mount Sinai's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominic Pennzello led the charge by putting up 26 points. Pennzello is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in each of the last 15 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Vales, who posted 15 points and eight boards.

The victory (which was Mount Sinai's 11th in a row) raised their record to 23-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.4 points over those games. As for Byram Hills, with the defeat, they broke their 16-game winning streak and moved their record to 24-3.

Mount Sinai wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 77-57 loss against Glens Falls on the 23rd. Byram Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
