Baseball Game Preview: Xavier Hawks vs. Marinette Marines

The Xavier Hawks will venture away from home to square off against the Marinette Marines at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Marinette took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Xavier, who comes in off a win.

Xavier will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Seymour, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hawks beat the Thunder on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Marinette had taken Waupaca down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Saturday. The Marines fell just short of the Comets by a score of 4-2. The contest marked the Marines' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Marinette saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt Stauss, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Miles Rutherford also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Xavier has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Marinette, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
