Basketball Game Preview: Augusta Prep Cavaliers vs. Gatewood Gators

Augusta Prep is 2-8 against Gatewood since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will challenge the Gators at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Augusta Prep came up short against Evans and fell 65-54.

Meanwhile, Gatewood had to kick off their season on the road two weeks ago, but they showed no ill effects. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 76-44 win over John Hancock Academy. The Gators pushed the score to 68-32 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rebels cut but never quite recovered from.

Augusta Prep better keep an eye on Bennett Haley. He was instrumental in Gatewood's win, going 9-for-18 en route to 23 points along with six assists and five steals. Another player making a difference was Landon Moreno, who shot 88% from the field to rack up 16 points and three steals.

Gatewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Augusta Prep's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Gatewood, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.

Augusta Prep ended up a good deal behind Gatewood when the teams last played back in January, losing 84-66. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
