Baseball Recap: Zionsville Snags 12th Victory in Last 15 Games

Zionsville posted their closest win since April 28th on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the University Trailblazers 5-4.

Jack Virkus looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Liam Salapka was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hughes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Zionsville is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Zionsville will host Avon at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Orioles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for University, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Anderson Prep Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.54 runs per game on average), something the Trailblazers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
