For the first time this season, Newberry will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out on the road to take on the Interlachen Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Newberry fell victim to Williston and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Devils. The Panthers have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Newberry saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Jones, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base. Riley Keith also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Interlachen didn't have quite enough to beat Buchholz on Tuesday and fell 6-4.
Dyana Valdez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Julianis Morales was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. India McMeekin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Interlachen's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Newberry, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Newberry has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Interlachen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Newberry's way against Interlachen when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Newberry made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
