Basketball Recap: South Johnston Comes Up Short

South Johnston lost against Fike back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The South Johnston Trojans were beaten by the Fike Demons 85-25. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 447th, while the Demons are ranked 50th).

It was another big night for Jamaria Freeman, who posted 33 points and seven boards for Fike. Freeman's evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Paige Lewis, who scored 15 points.

South Johnston has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Fike, the win keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.

South Johnston has already played their next game (against West Johnston), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Fike is taking a road trip to face off against Smithfield-Selma at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Smithfield-Selma: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Fike has snatched up 17 consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
