Preview: Eastern Comets vs. Tipton Blue Devils
The Eastern Comets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tipton Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Eastern stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over Elwood. Winning may never get old, but Eastern sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Eastern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayden Eagle out in front who rushed for 232 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 14.5 yards per carry. Eagle is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Word, who picked up 164 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Tipton can finally bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past Blackford, posting a 35-0 win at home. The win was just what Tipton needed coming off of a 33-0 defeat in their prior contest.
Tipton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dallas Capshaw, who threw for 105 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Landon Spidel, who picked up 92 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Eastern's victory pushed their record up to 8-2, while Tipton's bumped their own up to the opposite: 2-8.
Eastern and Tipton were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, but Eastern came up empty-handed after a 21-20 defeat. Thankfully for Eastern, Eli Carter (who rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
