Softball Game Preview: Northwestern Tigers vs. Spooner Rails

Northwestern is 9-1 against Spooner since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tigers are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Rails at 5:00 p.m. Northwestern will be strutting in after a victory while Spooner will be coming in after a loss.

Northwestern gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Prescott 10-9.

Ellie Peterson made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Peterson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Sutherland, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ashley Peterson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Spooner came up short against Grantsburg on Friday and fell 7-3.

Northwestern couldn't quite finish off Spooner when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
