Softball Recap: Delta Takes a Loss

Delta had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 5-15 to make it six. They came up short against the Leopold Wildcats, falling 11-5. The game snapped a strange streak: the last six times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

As for Leopold, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6-1 record this season. The result was nothing new for Leopold, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Leopold's part, Piper Lincoln made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Lincoln has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Malia VanderMierden, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylie Schreiner, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Delta does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Leopold, they will square off against Oak Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
