Softball Recap: Hillsboro Comes Up Short

Hillsboro had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-17 to make it four. They lost 7-1 to the Hesston Swathers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Swathers this season, with their most recent loss being a 18-2 defeat back in April.

Trysta Miller was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

As for Hesston, their record is now 15-10. Considering they have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Hesston's side, Brenlyn Richmond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. Richmond has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maci Kramer, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Wendy Roth, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Hillsboro has already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against Sedgwick on the 20th. Hesston has also already played their next game (against Haven), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
