Softball Game Preview: Phoebus Phantoms vs. Gloucester Dukes

Phoebus hasn't had much luck against Gloucester recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Phantoms will take on the Dukes at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Phoebus fell victim to Kecoughtan and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 14-0. The Phantoms just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Meanwhile, Gloucester put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against Bethel. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Dukes have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Gloucester's win was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Phoebus, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Phoebus suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Gloucester when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Phantoms avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
