Softball Preview: DeKalb Barons vs. Bellmont Braves

DeKalb is 2-7 against Bellmont since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Barons will face off against the Braves at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

DeKalb took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Norwell, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Barons had just enough and edged out the Knights 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Barons have posted since April 26th.

Sophia Gowthrop made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Gowthrop was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Gowthrop wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Jackson, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave Jackson a new career-high.
