Volleyball Recap: Pomperaug Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Pomperaug entered their tilt with Kolbe-Cathedral on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Cougars 3-0. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

One reason for the win was Pomperaug's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-17.

AJ Stietzel paced Pomperaug's offense, picking up eight kills. Stietzel got some help from Tripp Latta and his 17 assists. Stietzel was also solid from the service line: he led the team with six aces.

Despite the loss, Kolbe-Cathedral still got an impressive performance from Angel Gomez, who had 13 digs and two aces. Gomez has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last 22 times he's played.

Pomperaug pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Pomperaug didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Bunnell on the 21st. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Newtown on the 21st.
