Softball Recap: Apex Friendship Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Apex Friendship ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Holly Springs Golden Hawks 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Golden Hawks: they've now won four in a row.

Sydney Joyce spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Marquis, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Makenzie Spero also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Apex Friendship's record is now 4-1. As for Holly Springs, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-3.

Apex Friendship wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 9-1 victory against Middle Creek on the 13th. As for Holly Springs, they have also already played their next contest, a 7-1 win against Heritage on the 11th.
