Baseball Game Preview: Portland Highlanders vs. Morgan Huskies

Portland is 0-10 against Morgan since May of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Highlanders will challenge the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. Portland has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Portland fell victim to Coventry and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 11-0 to the Patriots. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Morgan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Haddam-Killingworth on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Huskies as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Jack Henry Palazzo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wyatt Luke was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Jadon Cartagena also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Morgan pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Portland, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Portland came up short against Morgan when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 5-2. Can the Highlanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
