McFarland posted their closest win since October 19, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lakeside Lutheran Warriors 2-1. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

McFarland found their leader in sophomore Talia Riemen, who had nine digs and two aces.

McFarland was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in four consecutive contests.

McFarland has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. As for Lakeside Lutheran, they moved to 4-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McFarland is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Mount Horeb at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Spartans' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Lakeside Lutheran, they will head out on the road to square off against Lake Mills at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the L-Cats have played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
