Basketball Recap: Fairfax Comes Up Short

After flying high against Metro Tech last Friday, Fairfax came back down to earth. The Fairfax Stampede were dealt a 78-41 loss at the hands of the Central Bobcats on Monday. The Stampede have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Fairfax lost, don't look at Bryan Mathews. Despite the final result, he posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Evans, who put up nine points.

Leading Central to victory were Grant Mattingly and Eric Butler. Mattingly went 11 of 16 on his way to 30 points and four steals, while Butler dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Mattingly has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Donte Blevins, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points.

Fairfax's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Central, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Fairfax didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-52 win against Moon Valley on the 23rd. As for Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 58-57 loss against Carl Hayden Community on the 17th.
