Softball Recap: Champaign Central Drops Highest Score of Season Against Macarthur

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Champaign Central). They blew past the MacArthur Generals 24-0 on Monday. Give the Maroons' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Maisie Bowers was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Kloeppel, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mya De La Cruz, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one double.

Champaign Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .744. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as MacArthur only posted an OBP of .267.

Champaign Central pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for MacArthur, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Coming up, Champaign Central will square off against Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for MacArthur, they will take on Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Generals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crimsons have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
