Softball Game Preview: Pickens Blue Flame vs. Wren Hurricanes

Pickens is 1-9 against Wren since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Blue Flame will host the Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Pickens comes in on nine and Wren on four.

On Tuesday, Pickens beat Berea 4-1.

Sophie Duzan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Pickens saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Thornall, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Thornall a new career-high. Another was Kaylee Bolding, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Wren had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Lancaster on Tuesday.

Pickens pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Wren, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7.

Pickens beat Wren 10-6 in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Will the Blue Flame repeat their success, or do the Hurricanes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
