Baseball Recap: Antietam Comes Up Short

Antietam extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the Brandywine Heights Area Bullets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bullets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-4 back in April.

As for Brandywine Heights Area, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Brandywine Heights Area's part, Brady Lieb was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Lieb is becoming a predictor of Brandywine Heights Area's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-13 when he doesn't). Lieb was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaxton Henry was incredible, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Bollinger, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Antietam will be playing in front of their home fans against Pottstown at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.05 runs per game on average), something the Mountaineers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Brandywine Heights Area, they will face off against Pine Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bullets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
