Basketball Recap: Aquinas' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After a string of four wins, Aquinas's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-40 defeat to the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays. The Monarchs lost against the Bluejays in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 70-25 score last time.

Despite the loss, Aquinas saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Riley Campbell posted ten points along with five boards and four steals. Campbell is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Vandenberg, who earned nine points.

Aquinas' defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Aquinas will challenge Clarkson/Leigh on Tuesday. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, they will venture away from home to take on Wayne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
