Softball Recap: Lewiston Bengals vs. Lake City Timberwolves
Lewiston lost against Lake City on Thursday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lewiston Bengals took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake City Timberwolves. Lewiston has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jenna Barney was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Barney was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with a home run.
Barney wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shelby Arellano, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Like Lewiston, Lake City also got a great game from a two-way player: Madalynn Blood. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Blood was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Gugino, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Kendra Schiley was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Lewiston's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Lake City, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7.
