The Newark Norsemen will head out to face off against the Sandwich Indians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Newark is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
On Friday, Newark made easy work of Ashton-Franklin Center and carried off a 19-2 victory. The Norsemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.
Newark got a massive performance out of Adelaide Johnson, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs Johnson has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bailey Shutter, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Newark kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Sandwich lost 15-3 to Ottawa on Friday. The Indians have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Kayden Corneils made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Newark's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-14-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sandwich, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Newark hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sandwich struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Newark beat Sandwich 5-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Norsemen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
