Softball Recap: Jim Thorpe Sets Scoring Season-High Against Notre Dame

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jim Thorpe). They never let the Notre Dame Spartans get on the board and left with a 33-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Olympians as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Madison Schwartz was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She also tossed two walks, marking her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jim Thorpe got a massive performance out of Isabella Sully, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and five RBI. Those four runs gave Sully a new career-high. Isabella Lloyd was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.

Jim Thorpe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .837. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Jim Thorpe's victory bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Notre Dame, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jim Thorpe will face off against Lehighton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Notre Dame, they will square off against Pocono Mountain West at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
