Softball Recap: Bruce Takes a Loss

Bruce extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping them down to 9-13. They lost 16-6 to the Vardaman Rams. The Trojans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rams earlier this season, when they won 14-3.

Sadie Box made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Leah Clark was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Vardaman, they pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.

On Vardaman's side, Makayla Johnson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Gracie Chandler was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Adley Teasley, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Bruce will square off against Hatley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Vardaman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
