Preview: New Iberia Yellowjackets vs. Northside Vikings
The New Iberia Yellowjackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northside Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
New Iberia's and Loreauville's contest on Tuesday was close at halftime, but New Iberia turned on the heat in the second half with 47 points. New Iberia took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 67-29 win over Loreauville. 67 seems to be a good number for New Iberia as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
New Iberia can attribute much of their success to Wayne Randall-bashay, who scored 21 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which Randall-bashay has scored at least 25% of New Iberia's points. Austin Delahoussaye was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Meanwhile, Northside's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 67-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Zachary. While losing is never fun, Northside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Zachary is ranked 21st).
The victory makes it two in a row for New Iberia and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Northside, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
New Iberia skirted past Northside 67-65 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Does New Iberia have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northside turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
