Baseball Recap: Bellevue East's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Bellevue East was the 6-1 winner over Omaha South when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Chieftains fell just short of the Packers by a score of 7-5 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Chieftains have suffered since April 25, 2024.

Bellevue East got a good showing from Christian Lester, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, Lester gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had over his last four matchups.

On the hitting side, Chris Hedlund and Tanner Miller did some serious damage despite the final result: Hedlund scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Miller scored a run while going 1-for-3. Steven Thiede also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The defeat snapped Bellevue East's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-5 record. As for Omaha South, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Bellevue East will take on Columbus at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Omaha South, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-11 loss against Westview on the 5th.
