Lamar typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday St. Mary proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lamar Thunder 58-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since January 24th.

St. Mary's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeremiah Starr led the charge by putting up 16 points. Starr has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kisean Dawson, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

Lamar lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jacob Dunning, who posted 19 points. Alex Williams was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for St. Mary's and bumps their season record up to 12-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 points across that stretch. As for Lamar, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 15-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will face off against Woodland Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Mary's is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.6 points per game this season. As for Lamar, they will square off against Colorado Springs Christian at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
