Basketball Recap: Cox Mill Chargers vs. West Cabarrus Wolverines

If the Cox Mill Chargers were feeling good off their 60-16 takedown of the Mooresville Blue Devils last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cox Mill took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolverines on Tuesday. Cox Mill was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Cox Mill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makayla Richardson, who scored five points along with 15 rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Alexander, who scored 11 points.

Cox Mill now has a losing record at 9-10. As for West Cabarrus, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Cox Mill will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake Norman presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Chargers in North Carolina (the Wildcats are ranked sixth, while the Chargers are ranked 182nd). As for West Cabarrus, they will head out on the road to square off against the Wonders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
