Softball Preview: Blair Bears vs. Gretna Dragons
Blair hasn't had much luck against Gretna recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bears will be playing at home against the Dragons at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Blair 4.1, Gretna 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Blair had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Elkhorn put an end to it on Monday. The Bears fell just short of the Antlers by a score of 3-2. Bears fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Antlers since Monday.
Blair saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia McClain, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Gretna waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They didn't even let the Falcons on the board, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout.
Ava Nance was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elle Burrell, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Gretna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Northwest only posted an OBP of .200.
Blair's loss dropped their record down to 22-7. As for Gretna, their victory bumped their record up to 21-6.
Blair suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Gretna when the teams last played back in August. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
