Baseball Recap: Hector Comes Up Short

Hector extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 5-11. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Subiaco Academy Trojans. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

David Warren made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Hector: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Lucas Baker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Subiaco Academy, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.

On Subiaco Academy's side, Sebastian Duarte made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Duarte has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kannan Nehus and Gregory Martijn, Jr did most of the damage at the plate: Nehus went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Martijn, Jr got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Nehus has posted since back in March.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Subiaco Academy beat Hector by a score of 7-4 later that day.
