Basketball Recap: Richwoods Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

After losing to Manual the last time they met, Richwoods decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Richwoods Knights took down the Manual Rams 51-35 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

When it comes to explaining why Manual lost, don't look at Nyanna Payton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Payton is becoming a predictor of Manual's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 17-6 (and 1-5 when she doesn't). Admyre Thompson was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Richwoods pushed their record up to 14-11 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.2 points over those games. As for Manual, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-11.

Looking ahead, Richwoods will be playing in front of their home fans against Bloomington at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bloomington has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Manual, they will venture away from home to take on Champaign Central at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
