There's no place like home for Mortimer Jordan, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Hayden Wildcats 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since February 14th.

Alyssa Hays A. spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mortimer Jordan got a big performance out of Amber Williston, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Williston launched this season. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Liveoak, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Mortimer Jordan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hayden only posted a batting average of .267.

The win got Mortimer Jordan back to even at 6-6. As for Hayden, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mortimer Jordan will venture away from home to challenge Oneonta at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hayden, they will take on Mountain Brook in a tournament on Friday. Mountain Brook has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.6 runs per game on average), something Hayden will no doubt try to take advantage of.
