Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy dropped their record down to 8-8 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Academy of Careers & Exploration Eagle. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Academy of Careers & Exploration apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Kevyn Espinoza Ramos was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Ricky Gutierrez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
As for Academy of Careers & Exploration, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.
Like Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy, Academy of Careers & Exploration also got a great game from a two-way player: Silas Urtiaga. On the mound, Urtiaga struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Thomas Koupeny didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Urtiaga went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Koupeny went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zavier Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Daniel Villegas, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Academy of Careers & Exploration beat Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy by a score of 10-2 on Friday.
