Preview: Rowan County Vikings vs. Fleming County Panthers

The Rowan County Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Fleming County Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Wednesday, Rowan County beat Lewis County 60-47. Given Rowan County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Lewis County is ranked 192nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rowan County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Colby Wilburn, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Wilburn has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Mirus, who scored 14 points.

Fleming County posted their closest victory yet this season two weeks ago. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-58 victory over Mason County. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Fleming County.

Rowan County's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Fleming County, their victory was their 17th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Rowan County came up short against Fleming County when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 35-29. Can Rowan County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
