Baseball Recap: Sherwood Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

There's no place like home for Sherwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the McDaniel Mountain Lions on Tuesday. The Bowmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.

Landon Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Sherwood let Carson Fleming and Kolby Stevenson run wild. Fleming scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Stevenson scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Henry Maskew was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Sherwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Sherwood pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for McDaniel, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Sherwood is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Mountainside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. McDaniel has already played their next matchup (against Liberty), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
