Baseball Game Preview: Chugiak Mustangs vs. Ketchikan Kings

The Chugiak Mustangs are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Ketchikan Kings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Chugiak is leaving town to face Ketchikan after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Mustangs fell just short of Service by a score of 7-5 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since May 14, 2024.

Owen Dockstader was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Lux, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Ketchikan ultimately got the result they hoped for last Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Petersburg. The Kings haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Ketchikan also got a great performance from Cash Larson as he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jesse Albecker, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Hayden Trudeau also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Chugiak skirted past Ketchikan 4-3 when the teams last played back in June of 2016. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Kings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
