Softball Game Preview: Atwater Falcons vs. El Capitan Gauchos

The Atwater Falcons are taking a road trip to take on the El Capitan Gauchos at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Atwater nor El Capitan posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Atwater's offense. They fell 4-0 to Merced on Wednesday. It was the first time this season that the Falcons let down their fans at home.

Kylie Medina spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, El Capitan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 27th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 24-1 to Merced.

El Capitan saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tasha Dickey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Atwater's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for El Capitan, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.

El Capitan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Atwater has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for El Capitan, though, as they've been averaging 11.9 hits. Given Atwater's sizable advantage in that area, the Gauchos will need to find a way to close that gap.

Atwater took their victory against El Capitan in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
