Basketball Recap: Surprise Valley Drops Season-High Score on Dunsmuir

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Westwood, Surprise Valley was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Dunsmuir Tigers by a score of 57-49. The Hornets' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Surprise Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Casey Grove led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The match was Grove's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Eichstadt, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards.

Surprise Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Kellar, who posted 25 points. Kellar is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jon Schneider, who had 14 points.

Surprise Valley's record is now 3-10. As for Dunsmuir, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Surprise Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-35 defeat against Tulelake on the 21st. As for Dunsmuir, they will be playing at home against Elk Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dunsmuir is facing Elk Creek at the right time seeing as Elk Creek is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
