Baseball Game Preview: Chittenango Bears vs. Marcellus Mustangs

The Chittenango Bears will square off against the Marcellus Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The scorekeeper got an easy start last Tuesday as neither Chittenango nor Solvay made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Bears took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bearcats. The Bears have struggled against the Bearcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Chittenango saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Brownson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Marcellus played in-conference for the first time on Tuesday and got just the result they were looking for. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Solvay 8-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Gavin Foy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Marcellus is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Foy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Tyler Mattison was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Jack Waterman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Marcellus' victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Chittenango, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Chittenango got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Marcellus by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
