Baseball Recap: Paxton Starts off Right with Win over Vernon

Paxton had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Vernon Yellowjackets with a sharp 8-2 win.

Phillip Bearden made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Clete Moore was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Colby Vaiyanet was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paxton will host West Florida Baptist Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Vernon, they will welcome Ponce De Leon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
