Softball Recap: Clinton County Bulldogs vs. Barren County Trojans

It was a good run, but Clinton County unfortunately witnessed the end of their 13-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Barren County Trojans by a score of 6-5. Clinton County has not had much luck with Barren County recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Sadie Ipock was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lauren Winningham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Clinton County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Barren County struck out five times.

On Barren County's side, Shea Bogue spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits. Bogue has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Riley Reed was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Elmore, who went 1-for-4 with a home run.

Clinton County's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5. As for Barren County, they pushed their record up to 18-7 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

Clinton County will head out on the road to challenge Cumberland County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
