Baseball Game Preview: Hastings Tigers vs. Standing Bear Grizzlies

The Hastings Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Standing Bear Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Hastings fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Grand Island on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Islanders by a score of 4-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 23, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Ashton Hawes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has become a key player for Hastings: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

At the plate, Hastings saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Jimenez, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Another was Royer DeLoera, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Standing Bear and Blair faced off in a Battle of the Bears on Monday. The Grizzlies fell 9-5 to the Bears.

Standing Bear has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Hastings, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.
