Baseball Recap: Greenfield-Central Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Greenfield-Central nor North Central made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Cougars walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Panthers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Steven Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greenfield-Central is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Ellis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Luke Sitzman also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Greenfield-Central now has a winning record of 8-7. As for North Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenfield-Central will square off against Pendleton Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Arabians have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for North Central, they will challenge Guerin Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
