Baseball Recap: Jefferson Beats Devine for Their Third Straight Win

Jefferson proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Devine Warhorses 5-4. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 6-2 victory the Warhorses walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2019.

Alexzander Escobar made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Fernando Benitez-Ruiz was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. That run marked the first that he scored this season. Another player making a difference was Justin Ruiz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple.

The win was the third in a row for Jefferson, bringing their record for this year to 8-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Devine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jefferson will square off against Highlands at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highlands has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.13 runs per game on average), something Jefferson will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Devine, they will take on Carrizo Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Devine 3.7, Carrizo Springs 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
