Basketball Recap: Red Lake Warriors vs. Cass Lake-Bena Panthers
If the Red Lake Warriors were riding high off their 100-58 takedown of the Clearbrook-Gonvick Bears last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Red Lake fell 94-81 to the Panthers on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Defeat or not, Red Lake got some senior leadership from Gerald Kingbird jr and Dave Dudley Jr. Kingbird jr went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 4 assists, while Dudley Jr. dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Brown, who scored eight points along with six steals.
Red Lake's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Cass Lake-Bena, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Red Lake has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Wolves at 7:15 p.m. on February 6th. Walker-Hackensack-Akeley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Cass Lake-Bena, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. Kelliher/Northome knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully the Panthers like a good challenge.
