Softball Game Preview: Mountain View Mountain Lions vs. Casa Grande Cougars

Mountain View has gone a perfect 7-0 against Casa Grande recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Mountain Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Mountain View will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Mountain View's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Sahuarita. The Mountain Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Arianna Figueroa made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danika Stoddard, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Julia Donnely was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Casa Grande fell victim to Canyon del Oro and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Dorados. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Casa Grande saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cierah Mendez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Mountain View's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Casa Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

Mountain View beat Casa Grande 6-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Do the Mountain Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
