Cabrillo had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-11 to make it 11. They fell just short of the Templeton Eagles by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Conquistadores have suffered since February 27th.
Jacob Clark put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Clark was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Matthew Koff was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Gabe Barraza was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
As for Templeton, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-9. The victory was some much needed relief for they as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like Cabrillo, Templeton also got a great game from a two-way player: Nate Argain. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Argain was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Templeton got a massive performance out of Ryder Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Garcia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Beckwith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Cabrillo wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-2 win against Nipomo on the 27th. As for Templeton, they will face off against Santa Ynez at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 12.4 runs per game this season.
