Basketball Recap: Madison Mcqueen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lejeune over Dixon

Lejeune was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dixon Bulldogs. The Devil Pups lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in January of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 53-22 score last time.

Lejeune lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Madison McQueen, who posted ten points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. McQueen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jane Gwinn, who had nine points and seven rebounds.

Lejeune's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Dixon, they pushed their record up to 3-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Lejeune and Dixon could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Lejeune (ranked 537th) will meet Pamlico County (ranked 97th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Dixon (ranked 482nd) will meet Croatan (ranked 159th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
