Baseball Recap: Fall River Comes Up Short

Fall River extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-11. They lost 16-4 to the Green Lake/Princeton Tigersharks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigersharks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Monday.

Ethan Stai was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

As for Green Lake/Princeton, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for Green Lake/Princeton, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Green Lake/Princeton's side, Jamison Luepke made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Luepke has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drake Westfield, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Green Lake/Princeton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise. Lewis Lofgren also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Looking ahead, Fall River is taking a road trip to face off against Rio at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Green Lake/Princeton, they will be playing at home against Hustisford/Dodgeland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
